SC002Lesson 7 of 1040 min
Density and underwater movement
Walking through shallow water is hard work. A hand held out of a moving car window moves easily, yet held in a river current it is pushed hard. Water is simply much denser than air, and that affects almost every aspect of how we move, stay warm and use energy under the surface.
Objectives
- Define density and compare air, fresh water and seawater
- Explain why moving through water takes more effort than moving through air
- Explain why water carries heat away from the body faster than air
